EVENTS NOVA SCOTIA CONNECTS COMMUNITIES WITH TWO-DAY SPOTLIGHTING OPPORTUNITIES EVENT
March 9, 2010
Halifax, NS—Delegates from sport, cultural and entertainment sectors from all provincial regions and several municipalities gathered March 8 and 9 to exchange knowledge about bidding on and hosting large-scale events in their communities. Events Nova Scotia hosted the inaugural Spotlighting Opportunities event at the Halifax Marriott Harbourfront and also launched its new website, www.eventsnovascotia.com.
The two-day meeting signaled the official start of Events Nova Scotia’s drive to identify and attract new major events to the province of Nova Scotia. The event highlighted strategies around making bids and shared community success stories.
“We will be selling Nova Scotia as an event destination, so we are reinforcing to the world that we’re open for business,” said Grant MacDonald, Director of Trade Centre Limited (TCL) Major Events and Community Partnerships. “Events Nova Scotia is all about our entire province working together, in the spirit of collaboration, such as what we’re doing here this week.”
TCL is leading the project, working in coordination with Nova Scotia Regional Development Authorities, provincial sport organizations, tourism and cultural groups. Funded by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency and the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage, Events Nova Scotia will focus on attracting new events in the sporting, cultural and entertainment sectors.
